Hemophilia is an X-linked recessive bleeding disorder which is classically thought to affect males, and often, female carriers go undiagnosed. In this video, Evelien Krumb, MD, UCLouvain Saint-Luc, Brussels, Belgium, shares insights into a proactive hemophilia carrier screening project which aimed to identify and screen female carriers of hemophilia A and B using genetic testing and retrospective data. Results demonstrated a significant difference in coagulation factor levels in carriers versus non-carriers, and this study emphasizes the importance of incorporating proactive and systematic screening in clinical practice. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
