Robert Clark Brown, MD, PhD, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Atlanta, GA, discusses how a daily diary may be used to assess the extent to which sickle cell disease (SCD) affects patients’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The diary is based on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for SCD-related pain within vaso-occlusive crisis (VOCs) and outside of VOCs. Analyses of the daily diary entries will provide better insight into patients’ experiences of VOCs, how these affect their daily lives and quality of life, as well as portraying responses to treatment. This interview took place at the virtual European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress 2021.
