ISTH 2024 | Insights into the health-related quality of life of patients with hemophilia

Matteo Luciani, MD, Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital, Rome, Italy, presents the results from his research on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with hemophilia. Frequency of bleeds and joint lesions seem to impact HRQoL the most, but other symptoms such as pain, functional impairment, anxiety, and depression also play significant roles. Dr Luciani highlights that patients who started prophylaxis in their infancy tend to have a higher HRQoL than those who start it later on. This interview took place at the 32nd Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), held in Bangkok, Thailand, and virtually.
