ISA 2024 | The role of apolipoprotein, a type of amyloid signature protein, in modulation of amyloid formation

Olga Gursky, PhD, Boston University, Boston, MA, discusses the role of amyloid signature proteins, specifically apolipoproteins, in modulating amyloid formation. Apolipoproteins co-deposit with various amyloids, stabilizing them by binding to and covering hydrophobic surfaces. This interaction affects amyloid propagation, which typically occurs by fragmentation or secondary nucleation. Further studies are needed to understand these effects fully. This interview took place at the XIX International Symposium on Amyloidosis (ISA) in Rochester, MN.
