ASCAT 2024 | The ARISE project: African Research and Innovative Initiative for Sickle Cell Education

Duccio Bonifazi, MSc, Foundation for Pharmacological Research Gianni Benzi Onlus (FPRGBO), Bari, Italy, introduces the European Commission-funded ARISE project (African Research and Innovative Initiative for Sickle Cell Education), an interagency and multidisciplinary staff exchange program aimed at improving the knowledge around sickle cell disease (SCD) screening and management in African countries. With collaboration across 19 institutions from 11 countries, ARISE successfully developed joint research initiatives, training resources, and pilot programs, including patient registries in Nigeria and Zambia. This interview took place at the 19th Annual Scientific Conference of the Academy for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (ASCAT 2024) in London, UK.
