Santosh Saraf, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and Fellowship Training Program Director at the University of Illinois Hospital, Chicago, IL.

After obtaining an MD from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, Dr Saraf completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology at the University of Illinois Hospital, where he received Board certification in Internal Medicine. He is currently an active member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH).

Speaking on the pathophysiology and treatment landscape of SCD

Dr Saraf has expertise in sickle cell disease (SCD), congenital hemolytic anemia, hemoglobinopathy, bone marrow transplantation, and bone marrow aspiration. His research focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms for sickle cell nephropathy and the optimization of treatment for patients living with SCD. His work explores strategies such as kidney disease management, gene therapies, and stem cell transplantation, with a particular focus on disease-modifying strategies and combination therapies.
