Academic history
Richard Berman, FRCP, graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (University of London), London, UK, in 1996. After graduating, he trained as a general practitioner (GP), becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2001. As a GP, Dr Berman developed a keen interest in palliative and supportive care and enrolled in a specialist training programme for palliative medicine in 2002.
Dr Berman currently works a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK, in which he has implemented a new consultant-lead specialist palliative care service. His role involves pain and symptom management in patients with cancer and advanced disease undergoing treatment.

Dr Berman’s research is focused on finding new strategies to improve supportive care, such as pain management, symptom control, and complex symptom control in advanced disease, particularly in the field of oncology.
