Academic History

Rabi Hanna, MD, is the Director of the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation in the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, Cleveland, OH. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.

After obtaining an MD from Aleppo University Faculty of Medicine, Aleppo, Syria, he underwent post-graduate training including a Pediatric residency at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC, and a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle, WA.

Dr Hanna is Board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and has been a member of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology (ASPHO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the American Society of Bone Marrow Transplant.

Speaking on gene therapies for SCD in the pediatric and adult setting

Dr Hanna’s research focuses on non-malignant disorders such as sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassemia, where he has been involved in the development of clinical trials to investigate novel gene therapies. Additionally, he has an interest in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), aplastic anemia, and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), specifically in the pediatric setting. He is involved in research on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) to consolidate malignant disease treatment.
