Academic History

Othman Al-Sawaf, MD, is a Hematologist and Medical Oncologist at the University Hospital Cologne, Cologne, Germany, and serves as a study physician at the German CLL Study Group (GCLLSG). He is also a visiting scientist in the laboratory of Professor Charles Swanton at the Francis Crick Institute, London, UK. Dr Al-Sawaf attended the Medical School of RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany, where he obtained his medical degree and joined the Department of Internal Medicine of Professor Michael Hallek at the University Hospital of Cologne in 2016.

Speaking on new treatment strategies in CLL

Dr Al-Sawaf has a strong interest in the principles of cancer evolution and cancer metabolism in diseases such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). In his research, he investigates computational approaches for the discovery and development of new treatment strategies in clinical oncology. He also works as a coordinating physician and principal investigator for both national and international Phase I to III clinical trials.
