Academic History

Marek Trněný, MD, is a Professor of Medical Oncology and head of the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University Hospital, Prague, Czech Republic, where he also serves as head of the lymphoma group and the Stem Cell Transplantation Program. In 2026, he was elected the President of the Czech Medical Academy.

Prof. Trněný earned his MD from the Faculty of General Medicine at Charles University in 1985. Since 1990, he has completed his residency and fellowship in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, worked at the General Teaching Hospital and the First Faculty of Medicine, and obtained a C.Sc. degree.

Prof. Trněný has been actively involved in national and international cooperative research groups, including serving as a member of the hematology-oncology guidelines committee at ESMO, ASCO, ASH, and the scientific board of the International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma. He has been the initiator and editor of the national guidelines for the diagnosis and therapy of lymphoma in the Czech Republic.

Prof. Trněný’s expertise is primarily within lymphoid malignancies, including lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). His research focuses on the pathogenesis of these diseases and the development of targeted treatments. Prof. Trněný has been a principal investigator in over 20 trials in hematology and has authored hundreds of research papers and reviews.
