Academic History

Lawrence Boise, PhD, obtained his PhD in Pharmacology from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine (formerly known as the Medical College of Virginia), Richmond, VA. Dr Boise also completed postgraduate training at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, and at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL. At present, Dr Boise is a Professor and the R. Randall Rollins Chair in Oncology in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, and the Associate Director for Education and Training at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Atlanta, GA.

Speaking on disease biology and resistance mechanisms in multiple myeloma

Throughout his career, Dr Boise has contributed to early studies investigating genes controlling cell survival and cell death in myeloma. His research team is currently studying how agents such as proteasome inhibitors and arsenicals can be used to target and kill myeloma cells.
