Academic History

Alex Bataller, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Leukemia, Division of Cancer Medicine, at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.

Dr Bataller obtained his MD at University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain, where he completed his PhD in Translational Medicine as well as his hematology residency. Subsequently, he completed a leukemia fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr Bataller has been actively involved in national and international cooperative research groups, including as a member of the European Hematology Association and the Catalan Society of Hematology and Immunology.

Speaking on the biology of MDS and AML

Dr Bataller’s research interests focus on understanding the biology underlying myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML), with the aim of developing more effective treatments for patients. He is an active member of the MDS research group at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, contributing to both clinical and translational studies aimed at improving outcomes for patients with MDS.
