Dr Eleftheriou emphasizes the difficulties of managing chronic blood transfusions, iron overload, and their complications, as well as the need for a dedicated thalassemia team. She also stresses the importance of addressing mental health struggles and quality of life concerns in these patients, which are often inadequately supported.
