Maya Bizri, MD, MPH, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, and American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon, highlights the lack of psychosocial support provided to patients with thalassemia, with a focus on Lebanon. Dr Bizri emphasizes disparities in access to care for patients with thalassemia intermedia (TI), who often struggle with brain fog and depression yet receive limited support. Dr Bizri also calls for more focus on the mental health of adult patients with hemoglobinopathies, highlighting the underdiagnosis of mental health issues like depression.
