ASH 2023 | AML differentiation state & genotype influence anti-apoptotic protein expression & ven sensitivity

Curtis Lachowiez, MD, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR, discusses genotypic and phenotypic resistance mechanisms to venetoclax (ven) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Both myeloid differentiation and genetic mutations independently drive anti-apoptotic protein expression, with cell differentiation state emerging as the more potent driver. There is also an interaction between genotype and phenotype, with a higher expression of resistance-related mutations in specific AML cell phenotypes. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
