ISA 2022 | Establishing regional centers of excellence to treat ATTRv amyloidosis in West Africa
Kwaku Appiah-Kubi, PhD, Tedam University of Technology and Applied Science, Navrongo, Ghana, discusses the ongoing establishment of regional centers of excellence to diagnose and treat hereditary transthyretin (ATTRv) amyloidosis in West Africa. In order to achieve that, TTR amyloidosis support networks will be established to raise awareness about amyloidosis amongst healthcare professionals with the aim to improve diagnosis and ensure timely treatment of this disease. In addition, a TTR amyloidosis workforce network will be set up to create additional support networks designed to train staff from selected institutions in the six west African countries with the highest prevalence of the V122I ATTR variant. This interview took place at the 2022 International Symposium on Amyloidosis (ISA) held in Heidelberg, Germany.
