Nathaniel Treister, DMD, DMSc, from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA, explains how clinicians and nurses can care for patients with chronic graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) at the 2017 annual meeting of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) in Marseille, France. He highlights both systemic immunosuppressive therapy and targeted therapy for different areas of the body, and explains that the mouth is one of the most commonly affected sites. Dr Treister describes the pathology found in oral graft-versus-host disease, and symptoms experienced by patients, as well as discussing what nurses should be aware of when caring for patients.
