Kieron Dunleavy, MD, from the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, discusses ibrutinib in the treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma at the International Workshop on Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (iwNHL) 2017, held in Vancouver, BC, Canada. There are two subtypes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma; germinal center B-cell like (GCB) and activated B-cell-like (ABC). An important characteristic of the ABC type is activation of the NF-κB pathway, one step involving BTK. Ibrutinib is an agent that targets BTK, and there have been multiple studies investigating this in the relapsed and refractory setting.
