Academic History
Jesús San Miguel, MD, PhD, attended the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, where he completed his medical degree in 1976. Since then, he has published over 700 international articles and given talks at highly prestigious institutions on more than 160 occasions. Prof. San Miguel is the Medical Director of the University of Navarra Clinic, and Associate Editor of many high-impact journals including Blood and Hematologica. He serves on numerous national and international scientific boards including the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the European Hematology Association.
Prof. San Miguel received the Waldenström Award in 2007 and is a seven-time recipient of the Spanish Society of Hematology and the Spanish Cancer Association prize. He was also recently awarded the Michaeli Award for his contribution to the knowledge of myeloma.
Speaking on prognostic factors in multiple myeloma
With a primary focus on multiple myeloma, Prof. San Miguel researches immunophenotyping and prognostic factors such as measurable residual disease (MRD) and risk of progression from precursor conditions to active myeloma. He also investigates cancer therapeutics on a preclinical and clinical level, and has run over 35 clinical trials as a principal investigator.
