Academic history

Christian Chabannon, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine in Cell Biology at Aix Marseille Université (AMU) School of Medicine, Marseille, France. He is also a board-certified physician that specializes in hematology and medical oncology, practicing at the Institut Paoli-Calmettes, Marseille, France and at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Marseille, France. In addition, Prof. Chabannon is the Coordinator of ‘Centre d’Investigations Cliniques en Biotherapies de Marseille’ which aims to unify clinical investigations about cellular therapies in the major metropolitan areas in France.

Prof. Chabannon has been the Chair of the Cellular Therapy & Immunobiology Working Party (CTIWP) of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) since 2017 and was Co-Chair of the International Society of Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT) 2020 Annual Meeting.

Speaking on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Prof. Chabannon is particularly interested in improving cell and gene therapies through a better understanding of the biology of hematopoietic stem cells. He was recently involved in a Phase I clinical trial investigating donor-derived natural killer (NK)-cell infusion as a prophylactic treatment following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) in patients with hematological malignancies.
