Ali Taher

Academic history

Ali Taher, MD, PhD, FRCP is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute (NKBCI), at the American University of Beirut (AUB) Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon. Prof. Taher completed his residency and fellowship at the AUB before completing his clinical fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Royal Free Hospital, London, UK.

As well as his position at AUB, Prof. Taher has also been an adjunct Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, since 2013, and is a visiting Professor at the University of Milan, Milan, Italy. During his career so far, Prof. Taher has authored and co-authored over 250 peer reviewed research papers.

Speaking on thalassemia

Prof. Taher has recently been involved in the publication of research data covering new therapeutic techniques and COVID-19 complications for patients with β‐thalassemia. He has been the Principal Investigator of multiple trials, including those researching treatment of β‐thalassemia with deferasirox, SP-420 and sildenafil.
