ISA 2024 | Results from a single-cell spatial analysis of the renal AL amyloidosis immunome

Charalampos Charalampous, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, discusses the findings from single-cell spatial analysis of the renal light chain (AL) amyloidosis immunome, performed using imaging mass cytometry. High T-cell infiltration, specifically of HLA-DR+ T-cells, was observed in samples from patients with AL amyloidosis compared to normal and disease controls. The study also highlighted a closer proximity of T-cells to the glomeruli (as opposed to blood vessels) in patients with AL amyloidosis. Together, these results support the role of a T-cell-mediated tissue toxicity mechanism in the pathogenesis of renal AL amyloidosis. This interview took place at the XIX International Symposium on Amyloidosis (ISA) in Rochester, MN.
