BSH 2017 | Biosimilars: breaking down barriers of prejudice

Mark Verrill • 29 Mar 2017

Mark Verrill, MA, MB, BChir, FRCP, from Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK discusses the presumptions made about biosimilars and his aim to raise awareness to change peoples’ attitudes towards them. Dr Verrill mentions that biosimilars have unknowingly been in the market for years because innovator biological drugs are constantly being manufactured and processed in different ways resulting in slight differences in performance. It is also important to know that biosimilars are tested extensively, and have to perform in a similar manner to the innovator drugs to get licensed. This interview has been recorded at the 2017 British Society for Hematology (BSH) Annual Scientific Meeting in Brighton, UK. This video has been supported by Napp Pharmaceuticals Ltd through an unrestricted educational grant to Magdalen Medical Publishing.
